A Weekend at the 35th Annual International Sportsman's Show

Blake at the Colorado Sportsman's showThe 35th Annual International Sportsman's Show was held this weekend in Denver, bringing the best in hunting, fishing & outdoor sports shows in the western United States. This year I brought along my four year old son Blake to checkout all the terrific gear & exhibits. For him it was like Disneyland as there was unlimited fun to be had, including learning to tie his first fly (the San Juan worm). For me, it was an opportunity to say hello and support the many outdoor enthusiasts I've come to know through business or personally over the years and meet new ones.

Getting into the Holiday Spirit

Earlier this month, Colorado Fay Ranches broker Coble Thurman attended a holiday tradition in wintery Grand County.  Each December family members join together over a snowy weekend for the annual Tree Trimming Weekend.  Located off the beaten path, tucked away hidden in the massive pines quietly sits a private, historic ski lodge reminiscent of the early days of skiing.  Members enjoy ski in/ski out access, private room lodging along with wonderfully chef prepared meals served with festive cheer.  On one afternoon, the older members hike up the property to locate, cut & carry back the Christmas tree back into the cozy, vintage ski lodge.  This year's light snowfall made this a much easier task than in year's past as Colorado has yet to receive it's first big snow storm of the year.

Fall Hunting on Private Farmland

Their experienced host/guide had local knowledge of where to go to provide the group of 20 hunters with the best opportunities, a must in these parts of the country.

Golfing for a Good Cause in Colorado

Earlier this September, Fay Ranches was a major sponsor for Colorado Trout Unlimited's First Annual Golf Tournament, supporting their efforts in raising money for statewide conservation efforts, stream improvements & Youth Programs. Company Golfers for a Good CauseFounder Greg Fay & Colorado Broker Coble Thurman joined clients, friends, and new acquaintances in an entertaining day of golf on a spectacular autumn afternoon, all for a good cause. The opportunity to be one of the major sponsors in this first annual event was an easy decision as CTU's conservation ideals go hand-in-hand with the values that we stand for at Fay Ranches. Although the Fay foursome didn't score as well as the had hoped on the golf course, their support helped make this year's tournament a huge success.

Colorado Tax Break Intended For Struggling Farmers and Ranchers Causes Controversy

A couple highlights from a recent article from the Denver Post that covers the Colorado Ag Tax Break controversy.

"They can throw some cows on there and then give us a lease and then fence it, and they could take the cow off after one day," he said. "We can do nothing."
However, he pointed out that the current system has no middle ground between low ag rates and the alternative high vacant-land rate.
"We're in a scenario where it is one extreme or another," he said.
