BJ "Chip" Lenihan, Broker Associate - Colorado

BJ "Chip" Lenihan moved from Louisville, Kentucky to Durango, CO in 1972.  There he graduated from Fort Lewis College 1974.  The next 10 years of his life he started LenCon, Inc, general contracting firm that helped progress and develop southwest Colorado into what it has become today – a pristine place to live and work.  He became a licensed Real Estate Broker in 1985, living and working in Telluride, Colorado.

In 1986 he was elected Mayor of Telluride.  Highlights of his term included building the River Corridor Trail through the Town of Telluride and settling the Idarado superfund litigation, which led to the rehabilitation of five miles on the San Miguel River. He co-founded and served as the first chairman of the Telluride Regional Airport Authority and oversaw funding, construction and licensing of the airport.  Over the last 30 years he has been on numerous boards, fund raising committees, and been MC for Telluride’s famous 4th of July Parade.

As his real estate career continued, he began selling more land than single residences and his passion for all things outdoors met the ranch brokerage business head on.  His ranch brokerage increased regionally, and then expanded from Colorado to Montana, where during his first visit he met Greg Fay and James Esperti.  That meeting led to Chip’s first Montana ranch sale on the Big Hole River.  Since that first trip to Montana, finding the perfect ranch for a long time client and friend from Telluride, he has spent the last 15 years traveling extensively through the Intermountain West fishing, hunting, and selling ranches of all sizes and uses.  He brings a hands-on skill set to the business with comprehensive experience that covers the “Gentleman’s Ranch” of 100 acres on a trout stream to the 20,000 acre working cattle ranch that needs to produce as efficiently as possible, while maintaining the needed respect for the land and its indigenous animals.  His stated belief that we HAVE TO BE GOOD STEWARDS of the land is interwoven into every search and transaction he is involved with.  For years he has seen the benefits of excellent range management and forestry practices bring ranches to their full potential as not only good investments, but also beacons of sustainability of the true western heritage and a better environment.  This basic belief in sustaining ranching and conservation led him to Fay Ranches.

As an avid hunter and fly fisherman for the last 30 years, he has an intimate knowledge of the Rocky Mountains, and the ranchers and other sportsman who call this region home.  He is passionate about protecting the ranching heritage, land, water, and its wildlife.

Welcome!
