The 7,034± acre Lane Ranch on the Madison is a historic working ranch with a tremendous sporting ranch component located approximately thirty-five minutes west of Bozeman, Montana. The ranch has an amazing 6.2 ± miles of frontage on the world famous lower Madison River. The views overlooking the lush river bottom toward the surrounding mountains and the Madison Buffalo Jump are breathtaking. The wildlife population includes an excellent herd of trophy whitetail deer, mule deer and antelope. There is excellent wing shooting on the ranch for pheasants, Hungarian Partridge, sharp tail grouse as well as some of the best waterfowl hunting in the area. A portion of the ranch is located on a stretch of the Madison River known for the many raptors that nest along the cliff lined banks. With tremendous water rights and much of the ranch being seeded back to native grasses, the current owners have established a sportsperson’s paradise while also maintaining the agricultural heritage of the ranch.

The section of the Madison River that flows through the Lane Ranch on the Madison is varied from its upstream stretches. As a result of so many public access points on the upper river and the fact that the upper Madison River gets so much press and notoriety, the lower river sees very little pressure from the public. With no public access on the west side of the river for miles in either direction, the fishing on the Lane Ranch on the Madison can be a private experience providing fantastic angling. This lower stretch of river where the ranch is located, braids up and becomes more dynamic and diversified offering incredible trout water. Many riffle, run and pool sequences present themselves throughout the ranch, and depending on the time of year, are very wade-friendly. Furthermore the section of the river that flows through the ranch varies by offering deep slow holes along the cliff banks, as well as braided side channels which provide more dynamic and diversified fishing opportunities. It is not uncommon to fish seams and pools that are over 12 feet deep, many of which harbor large brown and rainbow trout.

The Lane Ranch on the Madison is an incredible offering, incorporating so many wonderful features that it is difficult to touch on them all. The Ranch represents one of the largest tracts of land in close proximity to Bozeman, MT, and its amenities. This ranch borders the area of the Madison River known as Grey Cliffs. The views from the top of this feature are mind blowing; four mountain ranges and the entire valley that make up the “three rivers area” are visible. The town of Three Forks is a real charmer and lends a hometown feel to the immediate area. With tremendous wildlife habitat and trophy quality animals, incredible beauty, and productive agricultural operation, the Lane Ranch on the Madison is a great candidate for a legacy property. If view sheds, wide open spaces, and privacy are high on your priority list for a property, this is it. The property offers all of these and is still in great proximity to major towns and the interstate. The Lane Ranch on the Madison is the perfect place for a horse enthusiast that wants to saddle up and ride all day— from pastures to the draws, to the tops of the ridges, the scenery is never the same. For the hunter, the ranch offers deer, antelope, grouse and partridges, as well as many other wildlife. If nothing else, it is worth just relaxing on the front porch of the ranch house or fishing for trout that are worth telling stories about.
