The Sun Ranch Settlement consists of ten strategically placed settlement sites ranging in size from 20-160 acres.  Ninety-five percent of the Sun Ranch is preserved under a conservation easement and a reciprocal recreation easement allows settlement owner's to enjoy full access to the 19,000± deeded and 7,000± leased acres of recreational acreage.  Extraordinary amounts of recreation can be found on the diverse and well-balanced Sun Ranch encompassing river-to-mountain terrain.  The Lee Metcalf Wilderness borders the Sun Ranch on the eastern side for seven miles.  Add to that, eight miles of the Beaverhead National Forest, and together the Sun Ranch boasts wilderness access that stretches for hundreds of square miles and offers an abundance of recreational opportunities.  Access to the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park – a mere 40 minutes away, provides yet another opportunity to experience the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and all of its abundance.

Montana’s best fly-fishing surrounds the Sun Ranch.  The Madison River is famed as the greatest wild trout fishery in the U.S., and the unmatched insect hatches make for some of the best dry fly fishing in the world.  Three tributaries of the Madison River – Sun, Moose, and Wolf Creek flow through the Ranch and provide the angler with variety and private fishing.  High mountain lakes can be found in the surrounding wilderness area and the Sun Ranch has a stocked pond available for use to home fishing skills.

The Sun Ranch ecosystem sustains an abundant variety of wildlife including moose, grizzly and black bear, mule deer, whitetail deer, mountain goats, wolverines, mountain lions and Pronghorn antelope.  Bird species include Hungarian partridge, migratory waterfowl, and birds of pretty such as bald eagle and red-tailed hawks.  Elk and antelope herds also use the Sun Ranch as a migratory pathway astounding owners and visitors alike with their sheer, unmatched numbers.  The elk herds, often over 1,000 head, resemble a river of elk flowing over the landscape.

Amenities include a beautifully finished eight-room eco-lodge available to Sun Ranch Settlement owners.  A full service luxury destination with four course gourmet dinners, full beverage service, and well-established guide services, the lodge exceeds the expectations of residents and guests.  Many unique recreational opportunities are available on the Sun Ranch including photo safaris, birding, hiking, and horseback riding.  Also available are auto tours of Yellowstone National Park and canoe excursions to the area’s multiple lakes.

Without the expense and sometimes inconvenience of owning a personal ranch, the Sun Ranch Settlement is setting a new conservation standard for ranch and wildlife practices in the American West.
