The C R Longhorn Ranch is a compact, very productive and improved pure breed ranch. The current owner raises registered Texas Longhorn cattle that can be found on the CR Longhorns website. The ranch has very good water rights that come from stored water delivered by the Vale Irrigation District by a large canal that goes through the property. The water is pumped out of the canal and into the pivots, wheel lines and gated pipe from three pumping stations. The climate and land is conducive to crop growth with four cuttings of alfalfa that should produce 7+ tons to the acre. The ground can also produce potatoes. The elevation is 2,640 feet. The irrigation has been made more efficient by the 7 pivots. Most of the fields are irregular shape but now irrigate without the use of siphon tubes.
This property currently produces an amazing amount of forage both for grazing and to be cut as hay. There is also a very good, south facing, sandy soiled, sage brush pasture for calving in the spring. It is close in and protected from the weather. Cattle do well in this area with reasonably mild winters and an early spring. Producers Livestock Market auction house is 20 miles away in Vale with a sale every Wednesday. This is an agriculturally based area with farming and cattle being almost the only economic activity. A great place to live both for lifestyle and production.
