The Yolo Ranch is an extraordinary ranch consisting of approximately 3,000 acres of expertly managed habitat for wild quail production, a headquarters compound that is unmatched, a 20 plus acre lake and many other amenities. It is located in a honey hole of red sands in southern Medina County allowing for extraordinary populations of quail and other wildlife. With the improvements and lake added in, this ranch is a year round recreational paradise or permanent home, given its accessibility to Hondo and San Antonio.
The Headquarters compound is architecturally designed and constructed. It consists of a 10,745 SF main home, designed with entertaining in mind, that includes the multi-bedroom owner residence and 4 identical guest quarters around a landscaped courtyard. Nearby, on the other side of the pool, is a second home that is a 4 bedroom, 4,969 SF home. Adjacent to the pool are a pool house, bathrooms and an exercise room. Further complementing the compound are a tennis court, croquet court and numerous outdoor grilling and relaxing locations including a deck above the main house for enjoying sundowners or the stars. The exquisite landscaping ties everything together and creates a haven for birds and butterflies making this compound into something more than special.
The majority of the ranch has been managed for quail but also has fantastic deer and turkey habitat. The ranch is traversed by Tehuacana Creek and several other drainages; these riparian zones provide excellent habitat for wildlife. The brush sculpting has been done with both the quail population and quail hunter in mind. Discing and/or planting of both annuals and perennials are also utilized to further improve natural habitat successional components.
