The Stewart Quarter Horse & Cattle Ranch is the classic working cattle and horse ranch situated in southwestern South Dakota in the productive and scenic Sandhills ecoregion where the grasslands remain virtually unaltered since early settlement in the 1900s. This diverse pastoral 4,368± acre ranch has been run primarily as a cow/calf unit historically running 450-500 pairs with ample feed base provided by 2 center pivots and sub-irrigated hay meadows. The Stewart Ranch rests upon the Ogallala Aquifer and enjoys abundant water resources with lakes, creeks, and shallow wells throughout. The improvements feature a new, state-of-the-art 100 x 250 Behlen equestrian facility with 3,360 square feet of custom living quarters in addition to the original 3-bedroom ranch house, bunkhouse, horse barn, 2 Quonsets, calving barn, pole barn, and chicken house.
The bulk of the ranch lies south and east of the headquarters which opens up into expansive rolling hills and draws with the terrain being marked by native prairie grasses and yucca plants. Many species of migratory birds including Canadian geese, ducks, Sandhill cranes, and swans inhabit the lakes and ponds within the boundaries of the ranch and share the habitat with whitetail and mule deer, antelope, sharptail grouse, and pheasants.
