Fintail Ranch is a one-of-a-kind property with the best of Montana in a stunningly wild 377± acre package. Not an inch of space is wasted as the expansive, tree and willow covered river bottom seamlessly connects with the creeks, wetlands and pivot-irrigated agricultural operation. With its big mountain views in a private, river bottom setting, the ranch feels much larger than its 377± acres.
The Beaverhead flyway is considered to be some of the best waterfowl hunting in the state. Ducks and geese are prolific on the ranch given all of the open water. Wild pheasants are numerous and the property is enrolled as a Montana Shooting Preserve, enabling a longer pheasant hunting season and the ability to augment the pheasant population via stocking. The Beaverhead Valley is also known for its large white-tailed deer. It is not unusual to count over 100 deer feeding in the ranch’s pivot at first and last light. Exceptional fishing for brown, rainbow and brook trout exists seasonally in the 3± miles of Beaverhead River and year-round in the 1± mile of spring creek on the ranch. If one is willing to jump in a car, the Big Hole, Red Rock, Ruby, Madison and Jefferson Rivers are all less than 30 minutes away. Only slightly farther afield are the Gallatin, Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers.
The agricultural operation offers the owner an opportunity to generate income on the property. The ranch’s 92± acre pivot was recently planted 2/3 in alfalfa, 1/3 in annual grains. Small portions of the pivot are left standing each winter for wildlife food plots. Additional flooded and sub-irrigated acres add to the agricultural elements of the ranch.
