Wild Horses of Dutch Flat Ranch

By Jerry Hicks, Principal Broker, Licensed in OR

Virtually nothing is more significant or iconic in Western American culture than the wild horse. In the 16th & 17th centuries, the Spanish unknowingly blessed the American Wild West with horses that, over time, escaped or were released onto large tracts of the western United States, where they learned how to survive and thrive on their own. This model of the evolution of the wild horse continues today on a unique and beautiful Eastern Oregon property: Dutch Flat Ranch near Fossil, Oregon.

For decades, this 11,901± acre ranch has been home to bands of wild horses which have prospered and propagated completely unmanaged by mankind. In addition, these wild horses are not governed or regulated by state or federal agencies. What a rare opportunity to possess a small herd of privately owned, unmanaged, and free-roaming band of wild horses.

The wild horse… an amazing, free-spirited animal with an incredible story and breathtaking beauty.
