Less than a half mile from the historic Santa Fe Trail Pecos River Crossing, in the Pecos River Valley of Northern New Mexico, lies the remarkable 32.5± acre Nick of Time Farm. Two prominent mesas to the east and west frame the view of the primarily alfalfa hay farm. The farm enjoys 1,800± feet of Pecos River frontage on the west property boundary, offering a great stretch of private fishing. The River also acts as a wildlife corridor for many species, and whether you hunt with a gun, bow, or camera, you won’t be disappointed with the variety of critters that travel through the farm.
The charming adobe farmhouse was recently remodeled, featuring three bedrooms, two full baths, a new wood-burning stove, mini-split heating/cooling units, a gorgeous new kitchen, and a tankless hot water heater. Multiple outbuildings, including a large adobe shop, a two-car garage, a large four-stall hay barn, and a couple of smaller storage buildings, round out the farm’s improvements.
Plentiful irrigation water is available for two alfalfa hay fields, the large one recently leveled and re-planted. Hay production offers an excellent source of income whether you are a hands-on farmer or decide to share crop with another local farmer. The current owner enjoys significant agricultural tax benefits. The farm is perimeter-fenced and cross-fenced for livestock control. The farm has peach trees, a garden area, and a chicken coop as well.
The area is historically significant, and tucked away among large sandstone boulders is a one-room cave-like “dwelling”…possibly used by outlaws hiding out from pursuers; at least, that is what local lore promotes. Native American artifacts are frequently found on the farm, and it is a tough decision whether to look down at the ground for minerals and artifacts or look up at the stunning views. The farm also touches Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land, offering many more miles for trail riding or hiking.
The Nick of Time Farm is only 8 miles from the beautiful Villanueva State Park, 37± miles from Santa Fe, and 22± miles from Las Vegas.
