Dan Mahoney is a seasoned ranch real estate broker based in Western Montana, operating out of Fay Ranches’ Missoula office and specializing in the sale of ranches, recreational escapes, hunting and fishing properties, and riverfront real estate. With deep experience across the Bitterroot, Blackfoot, Big Hole, Flathead, and Swan Valleys, Dan approaches each transaction with precision, persistence, and an unwavering commitment to his clients. Early in his brokerage career, he was mentored by a respected industry veteran who reinforced the values that had already driven Dan’s success as a business owner: meticulous service and client-first integrity. Since entering the field in 2019, Dan has closed over $230 million in land sales, including many of the region’s most significant and complex deals. Proactive and highly collaborative, Dan works seamlessly with fellow brokers, attorneys, and title professionals—earning a reputation for excellence in every phase of the process.

Before transitioning to ranch brokerage, Dan spent over fifteen years in Montana’s fishing industry—an experience that laid a strong foundation for his real estate career. Known as a hardworking and diligent fishing guide, he spent countless days on the river building lasting relationships with clients. With a loyal following and a calendar booked more than a year in advance, Dan eventually launched his own outfitting company from the ground up, a bootstrapping effort that included building the brand through strategic marketing, web design, and outdoor photography. The business took off, and by the time he sold it—a move that financed his transition into ranch real estate—he was leading a team of seven guides across 350 miles of river.

Dan holds a degree in Finance from the University of Montana.  In addition to his real estate credentials, he is a licensed fishing outfitter and holds a remote pilot certification from the FAA, adding value to his land marketing through aerial photography. He maintains active interests in conservation and wildlife habitat, serving as a Future Montana Committee Member for the Montana Land Reliance and Vice President of the Five Valleys Pheasants Forever chapter. Helping others experience and protect Montana’s wide-open spaces remains at the heart of his work.

Outside of work, Dan enjoys chasing elk in Montana's backcountry, following his bird dogs in the uplands, and taking his wife and daughters fishing.
