It is Pheasant Season at Beaver Creek Hunting Ranch in Montana, and Pointing Dogs Rule!

Riley at Beaver CreekDon't mistake the above for the retrieving line of dogs that have been inbred to point. It took me longer to lace my boots this morning than it did for my 6 year old English Setter (Riley) to point and retrieve a limit of roosters.

I spent yesterday afternoon with Allison observing the farming and grazing that has taken place this year at Beaver Creek Hunting Ranch. As we all know, both are critical aspects in managing the balance between agriculture and a healthy population of wildlife. I have always enjoyed riding around Beaver Creek Ranch with Allison to compare notes on how the property has produced on the agriculture end and I get to throw in my input on how the property has produced from a recreational standpoint.

At the end of our yearly tour yesterday; we both agreed once again the balance has been a great success for the ranch and wildlife. I don't think a recreational property could have a better food source going into the fall. Peas, Millets and Barley are concentrating both upland birds, whitetail and mule deer heavy along the creek. The plots will also serve as long term food reserves for all the wildlife to survive the Montana winter that is just around the corner.

Definitely looking forward to getting back to Beaver Creek as the weather continues to change.
